Ynet News Report

'Bin laden dead’

Radical internet site says al-Qaeda leader dead; experts believe report a fabrication
By Roee Nahmias

An internet news site close to al-Qaeda reported the death of Osama Bin Laden, creating a firestorm in radical Islamic circles.

The report was followed by denials and accusations of a fabrication fostered on the site by foreign agents.

The London-based newspaper Asharq al-Awsat reported on Friday that the site Minbar Ahl al-Sunnah wa-al-Jama'ah declared, “We now report that the al-Qaeda organization has announced the death of Osama Bin Laden.”

One of the writers on the site, working under the pseudonym “The Mujahiddin’s Pen,” added: “Osama Bin Laden is dead... Where are the mourners? Where those who sent themselves into the towers and tall buildings?”

Some suspect disinformation tactic

Omar Bakri, a radical Islamic leader in London, told the newspaper that the style of the announcement seemed authentic. However, he thought it was a forgery designed to cause tumult.

Dr. Hani al-Sibai, head of the al-Maqrizi Center for Historical Studies, said, “If Bin laden was really dead, the name of his replacement, Ayman al-Zawahari, would have been announced.”

The Egyptian Islamist Yaser a-Sari told the newspaper that Bin Laden is alive and will soon put out a new videotape. A-Sari said the purpose of the report was designed to prepare followers psychologically for the al-Qaeda leader's death – something that could happen at any moment.

YNET - same site that writes that arabic news papers are reporting that Rumsfeld offered a deal to Saddam of freedom in exchange for a televised call to jihadists to stop.

I had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st when I saw these two stories.

Don't believe a word of the OBL dead story.

It is a fraud.

I let Debka know also because it is currently the lead story on their mainpage.

Hook, line and sinker. Oh my.

The ficticious poster who put this up on the jihadi website has zero track record.

Dubious bin Laden Death Report
29 April 2005: The recent rumors of the death of Osama bin Laden has a few private intelligence agencies and armchair analysts alternating between frenzied and foreboding breaking news messages, with few accurately translating the actual text of the message posted on a popular Islamic Internet terrorist forum.

Analysts at the Northeast Intelligence Network read, translated and reviewed the message approximately 45 minutes after it was originally posted by a newly registered poster to that forum who has virtually no other posting record. Based on the manner in which the message was posted and the status of the poster, government intelligence analysts are privately looking at the possibility that the message was deliberately posted to garner attention.

Regardless of the poster or intent, it is important to note that the message, written in Arabic, does NOT claim that bin Laden is dead. Rather, the message “waxes poetic” over what is expected to happen when the al Qaeda leader dies. In an off-the-record interview between Douglas Hagmann, director of the Northeast Intelligence Network and a government intelligence analyst who spoke on the condition of anonymity late this morning, “the message and the messenger are not deemed credible. The origin of the message might suggest some attempt at recognition.” Developing.

Actually, no Mal. I was posting the messages while you posted yours. You "beat" me by 1 minute. And not only did you post what you had, but *I* translated it and posted THREE messages.

Besides. I was trying to read RUSSIAN. So... you beat me posting an English Languge message. Anyway,m at this point it is VERY questionable. My sources, which by the way are even BETTER than Seans tell me it is most likely a hoax.

The original post went up this morning on a website with very strong ties to OBL called "Minbar al-Sunna Wajal Jam'a".

When it was correctly translated by our resident expert in the arabic language we saw something which stuck out like a sore thumb... and the rest is history.

Hoax.
