Community Members,

I have been weighing the benefit vs the abuse of the Anonymous Posts forum. By a large margin the forum was abused. It was a cool concept, and was indeed put forth in a manner helpful for the purpose. Those who made open and upright use of the forum, I thank you.

Sadly, the availability of making anonymous posts also drew unsavory posts to that forum. Many were in 100% direct violation of our TOS, and in general, just plain wrong.

SO after weighing the balance, this morning, I moved the forum to the archival area and it cannot be posted to. Non-registered lurkers cannot access it at all.

PF: Good move!!! While an idea of idealistic value, any potential problem analysis would have predicted that it would have been used by the "wrong" kind of posters for the "wrong" kind of uses. ["Wrong" = violations of the TOS, commercial useages, etc.] Too bad, so sad, but a large part of the animalistic humanity are amoral with no self-discipline.

We live, we learn.

I think Rick had it the first time. If its worth saying, its worth being registered to say it.

I was really waiting for the Viagra spammers to get-up and go because it would make it clear why this would not work. But on the other hand, I do appreciate the rationale behind the concept. Tried it. Failed myself lol.

Still wonder if there's a genuine manner of the board administrators receiving anonymous PM's (private messages) from security needy people with information to pass on. But then, would that result in another set of concerns?

Got to give a tick for trying though \:\)

Thanks for the feedback Mr. P. and spooknz.

I removed a thread from the Anonymous Posts section several weeks ago because it had not only created a TOS violation but was wrong to post in any general audience. At that point we made a minor change in post ability, figuring that would help.

While it did help, it was not a solution and similar to the movie War Games, the only solution was not to play at all, thus that subforum is now closed.

Sad that a good idea with good intent was spoiled by the poor ethics of a few.

However, this leaves us where we were prior to that forum and it was not a bad place to be. I keep PM's or emails to me in confidence as I know the other principals on this system do, so if there is a need to contact one of us privately, it just takes that small leap to do it. Our own TOS prevents reposting of private messages with the strongest penalty being ejection.

As to specific security concerns, that is left to your best judgment in relaying said material. Email or any remote medium is never really secure 100%. Only one to one contact is generally secure, but not always practical.
